Our Lady and Your Love Life

Nathan Bartel

What does the Blessed Virgin Mary have to do with your love life as a Catholic wife? Is it even appropriate to turn to her for help in this area, seeing as she is a virgin--the Virgin of virgins, in fact?

Yes! She is the passionate spouse of the Holy Spirit, and you do not need to be shy of asking her help with this intimate sanctuary of your marriage.

-Mary is the perfect model of active receptivity. This concept can help you grow in your love life. Some women need to develop the "active" side of this more, and for others, perhaps it's the "receptivity" they need to work on. Meditating on what "active receptivity" means for you can be helpful.

-You can ask Mary's help by praying a novena to Our Lady, Undoer of Knots for help undoing knots of shame, ignorance, wounds, and other obstacles holding you back from enjoying peace, freedom, and wholeness in your love life.

-St. John Paul II was deeply devoted to Our Lady, and he is also the pope who has written and spoken most on sex and marriage.

-Consider consecrating yourself to Our Lady, praying the Rosary, and approaching her for help. Her help and protection are powerful.

Our lady and your love life, what is the connection here? Is this wrong to think about the blessed Virgin Mary and sex in your marriage and your own improvement in your love life as a Catholic wife? No. So in this short episode, I just want to encourage you not to be shy about approaching our lady with prayer and looking to her for help in your love life, just because she was a virgin, and the content of your prayer here is about having sex. So I'm going to share a couple different points of connection here between our lady and your love life and how she can help. First of all. I just love Mary so much. She is just wonderful. I'm consecrated to her. I encourage you if you haven't yet. Made a consecration of yourself to the Blessed Virgin. Really look into that. There's several wonderful formats. The Kolby ma uh, consecration that St. Max million kolby, um, promotes, promoted, or there's a book, 33 Days to Morning Glory. Um, lots of different great options. The Demon for Consecration. It's really wonderful way to live out your baptismal promises and then part of your living out your Christian life and your baptismal promises for you as a married woman. Is living your vocation of marriage wholeheartedly, fully, with joy as a whole woman and being more fully alive. And that includes in this most intimate area of marriage, this inner sanctuary, your love life, your sex life with your husband. So Mary can help you with this because her prayers are powerful and because she also is a spouse, she is the spouse of the Holy Spirit and. The Holy Spirit entered her in some way, um, to con so that she could conceive Jesus and she cooperated and was very open and receptive and also active in some mysterious way, um, with the Holy Spirit's activity. So she is a model for us of active receptivity, and that's a phrase I would just love for you to meditate on and think about. In your life, your love life as a wife, how. Can that idea of active receptivity help you? Maybe for some of you listening, the active part is the area that you need to develop more. You've been really passive and um, and you need to engage and be more fully present and. Really bring more of yourself and, and prompt more action. Maybe that's the area where you need to grow. Maybe receptivity for others of you is the area where you need to grow. You need to be more open, more like open to suggestion, open to invitation, less critical of your husband. Shutting him down. Um, more honestly sharing, you know, like why you are not in a good place for making love right now. Rather than just a no, don't touch me. Get away. Okay, but active receptivity, there's this harmony between action and receiving there. So she's just a great model for us because she perfectly integrated, um, both the those terms, active and receptivity in her own spousal vocation. And she was the passionate spouse of the Holy Spirit. Another way our lady can help you is through doing a novea to our lady Undoer of knots. I encourage you to undertake a novea to our lady undo of knots, and ask her to help undo whatever knots are holding you back from. Enjoying freedom, peace, delight, and wholeness in your love life with your husband. Maybe there are knots of shame. Maybe there are knots of shame due to past regrets or to purity, culture, upbringing, and influences such that you just think that sex or your sexual organs or your husband's sexual organs are just bad and dirty and wrong, and that's not God's truth. God created. Sex. God created man and woman to be able to have sex in marriage, and he's the one who perfectly designed our bodies as women and your husband's bodies as men. So there's a goodness to all the parts of our bodies. So maybe a novena to our lady Undo of knots can help you undo those knots of shame about your thoughts. Uh, you know, as you, you have your thoughts about love making and, and sexual body parts, maybe the knots are, um, wounds. From past harms, from past abuse. Um, there are just so many, uh, different ways that we can, we can, um, have experienced abuse or harm in this area, and a novena to her can help you in your healing. Maybe they're knots of ignorance or knots of just attitudes and habits. Um, there's just so many different types of knots that can be binding us and asking her to help unbind them so you can be more open and free and whole in this area can be very powerful. And another way that our lady helps us with our love life is she was a huge inspiration to St. John Paul too. He was taught us to us wholly consecrated to our lady, and he is also the pope. Who wrote most about marriage and sexuality in recent times, and his writings have been such a great guide and clarification and inspiration through his theology, the body, through his document, um, Fili Familiaris Consort, um, through just. Yeah. How, yeah. He keeps pointing to sexuality as a great, good in marriage. So I think it's great that he's an example of someone who's very Marian, very devoted to our lady, and also not shy about speaking about sex in marriage. So with that, I hope that you can feel encouraged, really to turn to our lady for help in living out your own love, life, and marriage. I encourage, as I said, marrying consecration, praying the rosary so powerful, and consider doing a novena to our lady undo of knots. All right. I hope that helps you. Her help is very powerful. I know if you ask her. For help, she will answer in some way. God bless you and see you in the next episode. I.
